With the Company’s offices located in Northwest New Mexico and Northwest Colorado it is only natural that much of the daily flow of business is comprised of a variety of services in support of the Oil and Gas industries.
- As oil and gas fields age the infrastructure and equipment that supports them fall victim to a variety of ills including corrosion, oxidation, and erosion, as well as physical damage.
- Some of the San Juan Basin wells produce caustic/corrosive/poisonous compounds along with the natural gas, natural gas liquids and oil – most harmful in this class are H2S (hydrogen sulfide) and CO2 (carbon dioxide).
- “New Drills” require installation of well site equipment as well as piping and gathering system connections.
A full spectrum of API Inspections (510,570, 579, 580 & 653) and NDE methods may be used on projects in this category. Typical daily job scopes:
- An API Inspector accompanied by a Level-II NDE Technician will visit a well site to inspect equipment such as separators and compressors along with piping and tanks. Ultrasonic thickness measurements (U/T) are made of all equipment to determine if any significant wall loss has occurred. The thickness measurement locations (TML) are marked and Isometric drawings are made of all equipment on the well site reflecting those readings. Finally, pictures are taken to be included in the final report which may include UltraPipe and or AutoCad data management/design.
- A Computed Radiography (CRT) team will visit a well site to inspect equipment and piping which are suspected to have suffered corrosive wall loss, such as that generated by the presence of CO2. Profile radiographs are made of targeted areas such as piping bends, angles or low spots. Phosphor screens are utilized and then scanned for viewing and analysis via the onboard scanner, computer and high resolution monitor. When problem areas are identified those areas are re-inspected via ultrasonic testing, typically a B-scan. Results of the Computed Radiography are burned to a DVD and can be given to the customer along with an Ultrasonic Report prior to leaving the location.
- An NDE Team visits a service facility to perform an API 12F Inspection of production tanks. The Team performs a complete Visual Inspection (V/T) of the tank exterior, interior floor and bottom ring of the shell, measuring and marking the depth of any pitting to welds or base metal. The V/T is done prior to taking U/T readings to determine if exterior wall loss has occurred on the tank floor. Pictures of all marked indications and a written report complete the project.
- A Radiographic Testing (R/T) crew visits a well site that has recently been drilled and completed. As directed by the customer the crew “shoots” a portion or all of the welds on piping connecting wellhead to separator or compressor, sales lines, meter house, and storage tanks. The film is developed, any required repairs are marked and the report is completed before leaving the site.
